ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED... How does the laser work? The laser emits a beam of light onto the skin, which is absorbed by melanin – pigmentation – in the hair follicle. This light absorption creates thermal energy, or heat, which kills the hair. The dead hair then falls out within 10-20 days after treatment. Hair that does not have any pigmentation in it (white, fair, blonde, grey) cannot be ‘seen’ by the laser and consequently will not be treated. Which lasers do you use and why? We only use the Candela GentleMax Pro, a combined Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser. These lasers have proven over many years to be the most effective at hair removal, and are widely recognised as being among the best hair removal lasers on the market. The GentleMax Pro is also capable of providing hair removal for patients with any skin type, ranging from light to dark, something that cannot be done using a stand-alone Alexandrite laser. The Candela GentleMax Pro
Why does Laser Active only use the Candela Gentlelase Plus Alexandrite hair removal system?
Firstly, it is the only laser that uses a Dynamic Cooling Device.GentleLASE Plus unique, integrated Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) is based on proprietary Candela technology.
Dynamic cooling emits a highly focused spray of coolant on the patient’s skin milliseconds before each laser pulse. This makes the treatment very comfortable and protects the skin.
Secondly, it treats quicker than any other laser on the market.
Thirdly, the laser has won several awards for producing excellent results in fewer treatments than it’s rivals.
Finally and most importantly, it has the lowest side effects of any other lasers.
The GentleLASE Plus is FDA cleared (the powerful American body that regulates all medical devices) for permanent hair reduction.
This laser is a Medical Device and should not be confused with IPL's, usually used by beauticians and not trained nurses. These devices, which although powerful, are less efficient and have been shown to carry a greater risk of side effects like burning and pigmentation damage.
The Difference Between Laser and IPL
What’s the difference between Laser and Intense pulse Light (IPL)?
LASER light has three characteristics that separate it as the brightest, most powerful light known to mankind. LASER light is monochromatic (i.e. one colour) and research has shown that this colour light destroys hair follicles. Intense pulse light (IPL) is NOT monochromatic, meaning that IPL has many different colours and only a small percentage of these colours are effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
LASER is collimated meaning it’s slow to diverge or spread out. This makes LASER light very powerful as nearly 100% of the light can be effective in the treatment of hair reduction. IPL is NOT collimated and so therefore is quick to spread out – like a torch beam - making it less effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
Finally LASER is coherent meaning that the light is totally reinforcing and doesn’t cancel itself out whereas IPL is NOT coherent and is NOT reinforcing making it less effective in the treatment of hair reduction.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has its place in the cosmetic market as it is effective at removing some types of sun damage when used by competent trained users.
LASER stands alone as an effective treatment for hair reduction
